Third Key To Success – Learning

Learning is a continual process that even starts before we are born the brain is ready to capture our experiences and encode them into a web of nerve connections even before we are born.

if we came to defining the learning process we can summarize it in the following Learning is acquiring new knowledge, behaviors, skills, values, preferences or understanding, and may involve synthesizing different types of information. The ability to learn is possessed by humans, animals and some machines. Progress over time tends to follow learning curves.

so in order to learn all we need is to pay attention as the quote says “You learn something every day if you pay attention” Ray LeBlond

After knowing what is the learning process, we need to know how to tie this skill closely with success because in order to successes you need to be a good learner, in matter of learning skills, values or even gaining different knowledge. This is what makes success comes your way.

As we noted in the title of this post that the third key to success is learning and the first step to be a good learner is being a good listener, have you ever wondered why we have two ears but one mouth well the meaning after this is to teach yourself to be a good listener, that’s why you have two ears to listen more than to talk which is the corner stone of the learning process along with being motivated to learn more and know and master new skills, talents , and values.

As Chip Bell said “Effective questioning brings insight, which fuels curiosity, which cultivates wisdom”
if you read this quote many times you will understand how the learning process goes, at first you start by building an insight of the thing that you want to learn by questioning this thing, remember that when you wonder about something you are building a module of that thing inside your head that would motivate you to learn more and master it in your head by discovering more about it, this thing could be ( language, tool, instrument, etc…) and all this discovering feeds your curiosity toward learning more which enhance the learning curve inside you, which cultivate and generate wisdom about this knowledge and all these factors work toward firing the passion for learning and generating motivation for your success.

Types of learning:

1- Simple non-associative learning

Sensitization :
is an example of non-associative learning in which the progressive amplification of a response follows repeated administrations of a stimulus (Bell et al., 1995). An everyday example of this mechanism is the repeated tonic stimulation of peripheral nerves that will occur if a person rubs his arm continuously. After a while, this stimulation will create a warm sensation that will eventually turn painful. The pain is the result of the progressively amplified synaptic response of the peripheral nerves warning the person that the stimulation is harmful. Sensitization is thought to underlie both adaptive as well as maladaptive learning processes in the organism. (Wikipedia)

Habituation:
is an example of non-associative learning in which there is a progressive diminution of behavioral response probability with repetition of a stimulus, in simple words this type of learning happens when learning something and this thing becomes a habit that makes you a learn a certain behavior or knowledge.

2- Associative learning

Classical conditioning:
which is the typical case of introducing a consequences that happened as a result of doing a certain action which generates in your brain the experience learned from doing such an action.

Operant conditioning:
Operant conditioning is the use of consequences to modify the occurrence and form of behavior. Operant conditioning is distinguished from Pavlovian conditioning in that operant conditioning deals with the modification of voluntary behavior. Discrimination learning is a major form of operant conditioning. One form of it is called Errorless learning.(Wikipedia )

3- Observational learning :

occurs by playing, having fun, Enculturation, Multimedia learning, Rote learning, and in my opinion that this is an very effective way of learning because this comes by observing and learning, and this is not all there are so many ways and methodologies of learning and it does not matter which way you follow the most important thing is to make this process is an eternal motive for you to achieve success in your life and this would be it for the third key of success :) .
